Dr. Gocha Barbakadze


Professor Gocha Barbakadze is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist with extensive clinical and academic experience in liver diseases. He is a Professor of Internal Medicine at Tbilisi State Medical University and has held senior academic positions at multiple universities in Georgia.


Dr. Barbakadze completed his medical education and postgraduate training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Tbilisi State Medical University and has undertaken advanced clinical and research fellowships in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States, including training at Harvard Medical School–affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital.


His research interests focus on chronic liver diseases, viral hepatitis, and immunological mechanisms in hepatology. He is the author of more than 50 scientific publications and an active participant in international scientific congresses. Dr. Barbakadze is a member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and serves as Vice President of the Georgian Association of Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists.
